BPI names Reginaldo Cariaso and Juan Carlos Syquia as Investment Banking co-heads
MAKATI CITY, Metro Manila — Bank of the Philippine Islands announces the appointment of Juan Carlos “John - C” Syquia and Reginaldo “Reggie” Cariaso as co-heads of its Investment Banking group. BPI Capital Corporation will now be led by Mr. Syquia as President and Mr. Cariaso as Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Syquia, 49 years old, was most recently Managing Director and Head of Corporate and Institutional Clients at Standard Chartered Bank Philippines. He also spent 17 years with ING Group's unit in the Philippines, where he led Strategy and Business Development, and before that, investment banking origination and execution as Managing Director for Corporate Finance of the dominant ING Barings franchise. He began his career in BPI, completing the Bank’s officers training program in 1990. He has an MBA from Fordham University and an A.B. in Management Economics from Ateneo de Manila University.
Aside from being its Managing Director and COO, Mr. Cariaso, 50 years old, is the Head of Equity Capital Markets of BPI Capital. He had previously spent three years with Nomura International in Hong Kong as Executive Director of Equity Capital and Derivative Markets. He also spent 12 years with JP Morgan, also in Hong Kong as Executive Director of Equity Capital and Derivative Markets, Junior Resource Management and Corporate Finance. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
Messrs. Syquia and Cariaso will partner to further strengthen BPI Capital’s dominant position in the industry. Last month, BPI Capital was named Best Investment Bank (by the Investment House Association of the Philippines) and Best Securities House (by the Philippine Dealing System) for 2015.
Mr. Cariaso, in addition, has been named Chairman of the bank’s brokerage unit, BPI Securities. He will work with BPI Securities President Michaelangelo Oyson to expand the institutional and retail footprint of the brokerage.
